Probably last blog

This will probably be my last blog. I'll continue to review some of the many "things" I've discovered on this "stick," and I'll keep an eye out for any communication here. I have to admit this was a wonderful exercise. It's hard to know exactly what we don't know without help. So all kudos to the people who put this together -- let's do it again next year!

last of my library 2.0 fun and games

I spent several hours going into the recommended game sites via 23 things. The virtual reality place was so confusing, once I created a new me, and tried to visit other places (without spending real money), I decided to beg off and retire my new me. All in all I've found the information rather stimulating, with many sites/options much more so than others. I'm going to try to copy-block this message into my official NLLN blog, of which I haven't been able to access since I opened it earlier this year.

So to anybody listening out there in cyber-space, it's been real. I'd need another year of practice to master half of the 23 Things, but this exercise has broadened my horizons. And I guess that was the point...

not in right spot -- still

I have the blog retrolo in the NLLN space of 23 Thing on a Stick -- but can't seem to get in and manage that one, so will continue to blog here. Again, not exactly computer literate...

wikis are fun

all week i've been wiki-ing -- i've manged to post, read a bunch and now i'm finally getting around to making my own. trouble it, it seems to be taking a long time for the registration process to work -- for someone to send me a confirmation. so, as usual in computer stuff, i wait...

#8 Share Your Creations

eFolio Minnesota is especially interesting for those of us who may be looking for a career change or move. The site allows you to make your own interactive web page, which caninclued education, examples of your works -- a myriad of options. This appears to be a very useful tool.

Lazybase looks like a good spot for lists, but Im not sure I need my own database.

I signed up for PictureTrail but was unable to upload my photos.

#7 Web 2.0 Communication

I've checked out 43 folders and Google notebook -- both excellent ways of keeping track of various lists and librarian resources. I've already taught email classes in my library and know how to messange. I IM and text message and have participated in Webinars.

DONE #1 Blog, #2 Read/Watch perspectives, #3 RSS,

I have completed the above items and of course did not list them in the proper manner.

#4-6 Flickr

I have signed up for Flickr -- about a month ago -- and forgot to blog about it. The signing up was much easier than using the many features, however, now that I am in the site I'll have the option of more exploration in the future.

Wikis or die

The wikis I have visited included one just for librarians, and one for beekeepers. I can see how communicating in this manner can be very helpful for specific interests. However, we must remember wikis are created by everyday people, so the information should not be taken as fact. This is not an encyclopedia. Verify all facts and enjoy.

youtube

I've signed up for YouTube and have been enjoying short videos. Now if I was only sure somebody was viewing this blog, I'd be in business. On to the next stick item...

How do I put this on the NLLN site?

I am desperately trying to finish the 23 things, and I have found that the blog I started to begin with, I can't open again. Whereas this blog I can open, but I believe it is to be posted under the NLLN banner. If anyone could straighten me out on this, I'd blog about my experiences with the other stick items I've completed.

Thanks for the help!

Lois

Back again

What with terrible weather, a week-long bout of the flu, and rearranging my entire libray, it's been awhile since I've had a chance to check in. But now I'm back, blogging away, and ready to take on the next challange. Did somebody say Wiki?

Second of 23 -- a done thing

The number two -- reading and videos -- was very informative, however, this blog is in cyberspace and my stick blog is unaccessible. I will net give up hope, I will take two aspirin.

Another first of 23

I'm back making another blog, basically because I was unable to add to my last blog. Or access it to blog-on. I was able to comment on my blog, but I don't think that was the proper way to go about it. I believe this is number one on the list of 23. Here's the list as I recall...

1. Setting up my own blog.

2. Find out what Web 2.0 is all about by watching some perspectives.

3. Learn about RSS and news feeds and set up an RSS account of your own.

4. Explore Flickr.

5. Explore mash-ups from Flickr and others.

6. Play around with an online image generator.

7. Try a variety of communication tools and reflect on how my library and teachers can use them.

8. Share your slide decks, photos, or presentation slides on your Web site or blog with these tools.

9. Explore collaboration on documents and presentations without the hassles of email attachments.

10. Learn about wikis and how libraries are using them. Add an entry to the 23 Things On a Stick wiki.

11. Learn about tagging and del.icio.us, a social bookmarking site.

12. Explore Digg , Reddit , and StumleUpon
"rate" and recommend articles to others via these social media sites.

13. Try out an online productivity tool and learn about others.

14. Take a look at LibraryThing.

15. Libraries and games are becoming a hot topic. Explore some online games.

16. Explore the Minnesota Assignment Calculator & the Research Project Calculator.

17. ELM is more than articles. Use these ELM productivity tools to maximize what ELM can do for you.

18. Discover YouTube and other sites that let you watch and upload video.

19. Explore podcasts and consider creating a podcast of your own.

20. Explore Facebook and MySpace as a way to communicate with many people

21. Explore other Social networks.

22. More ways to keep learning.

23. Online evaluation and blog about your 23 Things On a Stick experience.

I have completed number two and have seen enough of number three to be totally confused again. However, I have complete faith that these stick items will make me a better librarian. And that is my goal.
